declared unlawful. Sub-section (3) of clause 5 empowers the Governor in Council to close unlawful premises.

Clause 6(1) of the Bill directs every society

ordered to be registered under this Ordinance to furnish

to the Registrar all such particulars etc. as are

required by the Ordinance or any regulations.

Clause 6(2) provides for every registered society keeping and allowing inspection of an up-to-date

membership roll.

Clause 6(3) puts the responsibility for the carrying

out of the section upon the president, the committee and

managers of the society, subject to a penalty not

exceeding $500.

7. Clause 7 of the Bill gives the Governor in Council power to make regulations and makes the regulations in

the schedule to the Bill law, until altered.

Sub-section (4) prescribes a penalty for breach of

any regulation.

8. Clause 8 of the Bill powers the Registrar to

summon before him and interrogate any person who is

believed to be able to give information as to the

operations, objects, officers or place of meeting of any

society.

Clause 9 gives a power which the Secretary for

Chinese Affairs considers most advisable, namely, confers

a power to order any member of any Society to be photographed.

10. Clause 10 of the Bill enables the Registrar to refuse to register any person as an officer of the Society

for any reason which he may think fit and provides a penalty for any person acting as officer acting without registration.
